Celebrating 5 Years of the Tennessee Corn Checkoff

This month, Tennessee corn farmers celebrate the five-year anniversary of the corn checkoff.

Efforts to create a Tennessee Corn Checkoff began with the desire of Tennessee Corn Growers Association members to form a commodity group dedicated to expanding the sale and use of corn grown in Tennessee.

In the fall of 2018, the Tennessee Legislature established the Tennessee Corn Promotion Board to oversee the funds collected, and after a farmer referendum vote was passed, the first checkoff dollars were collected in March 2019.

“For years, other checkoff commodity groups were able to have their voices heard in the agriculture community," said Mike Brundige, former Chairman of the Tennessee Corn Promotion Board. "The passing of the checkoff gave corn farmers their own seat at the table.”

Throughout the next several weeks, watch for additional posts about the current activities and the future plans for Tennessee’s corn checkoff.

There will also be opportunities to receive a commemorative five-year gift item on our Facebook page!

The Tennessee Corn Promotion Board is funded through a producer checkoff investment of one-cent-per-bushel checkoff on all corn marketed in the state and is managed by nine farmer directors. The Tennessee Corn Promotion Board was created to implement a program of research, education, market development, and advertising to promote the increased production, consumption, and use of corn and the sale of Tennessee corn products.
