National Corn Yield Contest: Accept the Challenge 2021
High yields aren’t just reserved for the corn belt states. Tennessee corn growers continue to participate in an industry phenom widely known as the National Corn Yield Contest (NCYC), excelling with impressive yields and playing an important role in building an industry-wide pool of knowledge.
In 2020, state winners for the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) National Corn Yield Contest topped out at an average of 284 bushels per acre – just over a full hundred bushels per acre more than the national average of 175. Hunter Hooper of Brownsville, TN even ranked at the national level with a yield of 327 bushels per acre, placing him third in the national Strip/Minimum/Mulch/Ridge-Till/Irrigated category.
Whether entrants seek to set a national record or simply strive to beat their personal best, every contestant contributes to a body of agronomic research that provides valuable information to help farmers feed and fuel the world.
