Tennessee Corn Publishes 2019-2020 Annual Report
Tennessee Corn recently released its first-ever annual report for 2019-2020. This piece summarizes the results of a Tennessee Corn Growers Association survey, designed to serve as the primary guide for how to best invest corn checkoff funds used by the Tennessee Corn Promotion Board and the Tennessee Corn Promotion Council (TCPC). The survey feedback guides the priorities of Tennessee Corn Growers Association’s (TCGA) policy objectives.
“This was our first year with checkoff contributions, and we are thrilled with what we accomplished. We have a strong group of farmer leaders that provide results-oriented recommendations,” commented Tennessee Corn Executive Director, Carol Reed. “We were established on a strong foundation of industry partnerships and collaboration and look forward to continuing those into the next year.”
Based on corn growers’ responses, Tennessee Corn is focusing efforts on export production, ethanol production, and corn production research to enhance profitability for Tennessee corn producers.
Because of an excellent corn harvest this year, the Tennessee Corn Promotion Board made investments in university research and ag-related enterprises a year earlier than originally planned. The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture Research received $124,181 to fund research to improve producers’ profitability. Four ag-related nonprofits received a combined amount of $42,500: Tennessee Ag in the Classroom, Agricenter International, the Farm Animal Care Coalition of Tennessee, and Discovery Park of America’s Agriculture: Innovating for Our Survival exhibit.
