The Work Doesn’t Stop: How TCGA and NCGA Continue to Advocate for Corn Grower Farm Bill Priorities

The farm bill statutory deadline — September 30 — has come and gone, but the Tennessee Corn Growers Association (TCGA) and the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) continue to be on the frontlines, urging Congress to pass a comprehensive, bipartisan farm bill that supports and protects corn growers as soon as possible.

Grower leaders and the NCGA staff remain actively engaged with policymakers by providing testimony at Congressional hearings and targeting outreach to vital Congressional offices. NCGA launched a grassroots advocacy campaign in July asking Congress to pass a comprehensive, bipartisan bill that protects and supports corn growers. To date, more than 7,700 messages have been sent from this call-to-action, and the campaign is still active.

NCGA has actively engaged with several coalitions to boost its farm bill priorities and partnered with several other agriculture organizations and industry allies to participate in farm bill conversations. As the deadline for Congress to enact a new farm bill drew closer, the National Corn Growers Association and 21 other agriculture groups are urging lawmakers to find a bipartisan path forward in the ongoing appropriations process to avoid a government shutdown. The letter was sent to the leadership of the House and Senate.

How Congress will focus on passing new farm legislation when the House of Representatives does not have a speaker and the November 17 deadline to pass appropriations bills to fund the government is fast approaching, is not clear. TCGA and NCGA will not waiver in our message to Congress and will continue to relentlessly advocate for corn grower priorities.
