Ag In the Classroom – Investing in Future Generations
A main focus of Tennessee Corn is providing resources for educators across the state, in order to help them effectively integrate agriculture into the classroom. One of the ways we’re doing this is through a partnership with Tennessee Farm Bureau and their Ag in the Classroom program.
For 30 years, Ag in the Classroom has provided training and curriculum to teachers in order to help young people learn about farming and where their food comes from. With lessons for students in first through eighth grades, educators (and parents!) have a variety of options to choose from. Additionally, Ag in the Classroom offers a variety of online resources and virtual farm days so students can learn about agriculture no matter where they are.
As you explore Tennessee’s Ag in the Classroom program, be sure to check out the AgSimulator (where you can see how corn is harvested!) and Tennessee Farm Bureau’s Garden Grants, which bring more in-depth, hands-on learning opportunities to older students.
All Ag in the Classroom curriculum is searchable in the National Agricultural Literacy Curriculum Matrix, an online standards-based curriculum map for K-12. The Matrix contextualizes national standards in science, social studies and nutrition education with relevant instructional resources linked to Common Core Standards.
