Pilot Ag Education Program “From Ear to Everything” Set To Kick Off This School Year
One of Tennessee Corn’s primary goals is to educate consumers on the good environmental practices utilized by Tennessee corn farmers and the economic importance corn and its value-added products bring to the state of Tennessee and local communities. This educational work begins with students in the classroom.
To connect with the next generation of customers and leaders, Tennesse Corn will pilot an educational agricultural program that is focused on corn through Tennessee 4-H this school year.
The objective of the program is to associate corn with things that matter in students’ lives. Using the tagline From Ear to Everything, the program will help students see how corn plays a role in their day-to-day lives – from the food they eat to the fuel used in their parent’s car.
Following the Tennessee Science Standards, Tennessee Corn comprised a six-part lesson plan to help guide students through the fundamentals of corn. These lessons will help students understand the different varieties of corn, how corn is grown, the various parts of corn, and its uses.
Each lesson includes a list of materials and directions, reflection questions, and an animated video series to help guide students through the curriculum, as well as a Corn League game – a fun card game for students to apply their knowledge of corn.
Key messages of the program include:
Tennessee corn farmers are part of our state and communities – they have families, jobs and homes, just like us.
Tennessee corn farmers do their best every day to care for the environment while raising a healthy crop.
Tennessee corn plays a role in every part of our lives – from the car you ride in to school to the burger your parents make for dinner.
By providing resources like the From Ear to Everything program for classrooms, Tennessee educators can effectively integrate agriculture into their curriculum, all while helping Tennessee’s corn growers tell the story of corn.
